Dear Friends,

We're writing to tell you about an exciting week of action coming up in New York and to ask for your support in helping to make it happen. From March 1 through March 8, a coalition of New York groups will host a series of educational forums, cultural events, and actions to draw attention to Israel’s apartheid regime and to highlight the growing international movement in Palestine and around the world calling for boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) against Israel. This will be New York City’s third year of participation in the international Israeli Apartheid Week (IAW), which took place in 28 cities worldwide in 2008 and is slated to take place in at least 44 cities in 2009. Building on the success of our past two years, New York’s IAW coalition is planning an inspiring weeklong program.

This year’s Israeli Apartheid Week approaches as we witness, with sadness and rage, the current horrors inflicted by Israel on the people of Gaza. In response, we also are witnessing a new awakening of conscientious objection among the U.S. public to such atrocity as well as growing worldwide mobilization to hold Israel accountable through boycott, divestment, and sanctions.

This year New York’s IAW coalition will host a powerful series of events. Your tax-deductible donation today will make this work possible. Your donation will fund programs featuring prominent activists, artists, and scholars from North America, the U.K., and Palestine who will engage the New York community in understanding the way forward from the current political moment, as together we mobilize to end Israel’s apartheid regime and to build a just and equitable future.

So far, we have raised $1000, and we need to raise an additional $4000 in order to bring our distinguished speakers to New York City and to cover organizing expenses, such as educational and publicity materials.

WESPAC Foundation: A Peace and Justice Action Center in Westchester has again generously agreed to serve as fiscal sponsor for IAW in New York.
